Orioles Add another arm

The Orioles have agreed to terms on a deal with lefty Dontrelle Willis on a minor league deal.(I got the news from mlbtr.com, owner Tim Dierkes, and Mike Axisa wrote the story, link is here http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/03/meet-the-mlbtr-writing-team.html). He might make the team but I really think this is a depth move, but with the Orioles you never really know. (This was also posted on the Offical Stokes Sports Site, Tuckers's ESPN blog, and Tucker's blog on blogspot, this work is a Stokes Sports Production and may only be used on a Stokes Sports site, so it may NOT be copied in any way).
More Coverage Below That is NOT on the ESPN blog but may be added to Tucker's Blog on Blogspot, Tumbler, or other Stokes Sports Web Page.

This is a depth move, nothing more. If he can return to the old Willis then this is a GREAT move other wise it is a minor league deal that could impact the MLB club in the bullpen. If you want to try for a ace this is how, sign a guy who COULD be an ace to a minor league deal but I doubt he will make any impact to a large degree in the MLB. But this is what the Orioles need to do, if they plan to turn this around sooner

Draft Notes

Texas thirdbaseman, 4th selection bought by "two for the money" for $24, $3 over value,

If your taking notes, write this: "it is important to get the first overall player, to make a statement but only at a fair price."
Yankees 2nd baseman (my pick) to me for $36 $6 over value but a fair price because that is a thin position in fantasy terms
Boston First baeman  Adrian Gonzolez   to team jones for $31, $9 over value
Yankees DH Raul Ibanz to team Edmonds for $5, $4 over value
Miami SS to  me for $29, $5 over value but at another thin spot.
Brewers Pitcher John Axford to team Fagan for $11, his value
Reds 1B to me for $33, $5 over value but I value him higher.
Dustin Pedroia and Joby Ellsbury both for value(team jone for both)
Jimmy Rollins for $12, equal to value, team smith
Matt Kemp for $ 40 value is  $33 to Jones
Justin Upton for $37, value $29, to me
G. Stanton value was $22, he sold for $27 to team Nult
UT. Mike Aviles for $1, that is his value, to team Jones
CC Sabithia value $ 17, for $21 to team Smith
Starlin Castro, value $15, for $20 to team Nault
Ok I have to focus now,
This is Tucker, SIgning off

The next two picks have fallen

After my winning bid it seems ok to have overpaid because now Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki and Tigers 1B/3B Miguel Cabrera were bought at much higher than value prices, my small gamble seems even smaller after those moves by one guy.

First bids placed

I have won the first player, Tampa thirdbaseman Evan Longoria I over paid by two dollars but being the first pick this goes along way to making a statement that you are there for business. That couples well with being aggressive on the fourms.

Time to draft

Hello, I will be drafting today while doing so I will blog every few picks and give some highlights of the draft each post along with things that I or the other drafters should have or could have done differently. For the record it is a standard ESPN fantasy draft, auctions style.

Draft Update

I just overpaid by $6 for Tulo not bad at a weak position.

Draft Update

I just got Ruan Braun for $33 in an ESPN draft, $1 over projected value not bad for an all around guy.

If Adam Jones is Traded What will that deal look like?

Here is a few ideas of what a trade of Adam Jones may look like.

To The Braves
Orioles Get: Tommy Hanson: A young Ace who could really help now and later
 Julio Tehran: Future ace
Johnny Venters: Power Back end lefty
Braves Get: Adam Jones: Star,
Josh Bell: Depth Behind Ol' Chipper Jones at third

To the Nationals
Orioles Get: Sammy Solis: good young arm
Michael Taylor or Eury Perez: Jones Replacement
Steve Lombardozzi: A second base option
Nationals Get: Adam Jones: Star
Kevien Gregg: Let the orioles drop him

To the Tigers:
Orioles Get: Austin Jackson: Jones's Replacement
Jacob Turner: Ace in the Future
Andy Oliver: Another Young arm
Tigers Get: Adam Jones: Star

To the Brewers:
Orioles Get: Wily Peralta: future ace
Carlos Gomez: A decent CF to take over till X. Avery is ready
Eric Farris: Roberts Short and long term replacement
Brewers Get: Adam Jones: Star

To the Cardinals:
Orioles Get: Zack Cox: Future Star
 Shelby Miller: Ace of future
Matt Adams: Star of Future
John Jay: Now and Then CF
Daniel Descalso: second baseman
Card's get: Adam Jones: Star
Brian Roberts: Second base guy
Chris Tillman: Future Starting Pitcher
Josh Bell: Fututre average player, depth at third for Freese

These are trades we see as fits for the Orioles but they win most of the moves anyways.

Guthrie, Guthrie does he stay or does he go?(by Tucker Stokes)

The day was: January 29, 2007 Jeremy Guthrie was claimed from the Cleveland Indians, little did he know he would be the orioles ace.

Now he is on the trade block and I have listed some fair trades for him:
To the tigers:
Orioles get: Pitcher Andy Oliver, Utility man Ryan Raburn, and pitcher Drew Smyly
The tigers get: Jeremy Guthrie and cash

Review and analysis: In this deal the orioles fill many voids they have. They add some good young arms to help out in the future and maybe sooner. They also get a power hitter and good utility man in Raburn as he would fill the void at second left by Brian Roberts unknown health risk. The Tigers add a good middle of the rotation guy to help them in their postseason quest and though they lose some talent they give it up from what seems to be a good group of young arm, although Raburn is a good player that they like they need Guthrie more and should be willing to lose him to improve their pitching.

To the Red Sox

The Orioles Get: Will Middlebrooks, and Lars Anderson.
The Redson Get: Jeremy Guthrie, Wynn Pelzer, Tyler Townsend, and cash.

Review and analysis: This deal is more package for package. The Orioles could ask for a straight up Guthrie for Middlebrooks and Anderson trade but that is not going to be agreeable. So instead they also give the Redsox a good young reliever and a good young bat as well. This seems to be fair but the orioles may also loss Josh Bell to make things a bit more even and that seems fine to me.

To the Royals

The Orioles Get: Will Myers, Chris Dwyer or John Lamb
Royals Get: Jeremy Guthrie, Josh Bell and Cash

Review and analysis: The up and coming Royals are loaded in young arms AND bats. But Guthrie is the vetran they need all the need to do is give up Myers and Chris Dwyer or John Lamb. Myers is a good young bat but is stuck without a place so he is expendable and Lamb and Dwyer are part of a surplus of young arms that the Royals have and losing 1 can't hurt that bad.

To the Angels
Orioles Get: Peter Bourjos, and Trevor Reckling
Angels Get: Jeremy Guthrie+ cash

Review: The Orioles add a great young outfielder to play and a good young arm. The Loaded Angles get a 5th starter and some money and open up some spots in the outfield for guys who need them.

To the Rangers
(look no list of orioles trade speculation is good enough without a shout out to their primary trade partner)

The Orioles Get: Mike Olt and Robbie Ross
The Rangers Get: Jeremy Guthrie and cash

Review: why can't they work out yet another move? The orioles get a good young bat and another arm to add to their future. The Rangers take yet another step towards a World Series title.

Cub's
Orioles get: Brett Jackson and the younger Chris Carpenter
Cubs get: Jeremy Guthrie

Review: The orioles add two really nice young players. The cubs get what they need, innings and lose some talent but they can afford it.

To the Astros
Orioles Get: Paul Clemens, J.B. Shuck
Astros Get: Jeremy Guthrie, and Cash

Review: The Astro's plan to trade Brett Myers and Wandy Rodriguez. They still need a vetran and Guthrie fits the bill. They give up 2 good young guys's but fill a void they have. The Orioles get a young arm and a young bat to add to the future.

To the Cardinals:
Orioles Get: Matt Adams, Zach Cox
Cardinals Get: Mychal Givens, Jeremy Guthrie, Cash

Review: The Card's could use a #5 guy and Guthrie fits that bill. They need him to fill some innings and help out their great rotation. They lose two young guys who really have a good future and both will help the Orioles in the future.

To the Dodgers
Orioles Get: Nathan Eovaldi, Justin Sellers, Scott Van Slyke
Dodgers Get: Jeremy Guthrie, Josh Bell

Review: The Dodgers add on a veteran guy and a former minor leaguer they want back. The Orioles add a young arm, utility player, and young bat(in that order of players from above). Both teams win this deal.

To the Padres:
Orioles Get: Keyvius Sampson, Joe Wieland
Padres get: Jeremy Guthrie, Josh Bell, Cash

Review: The Padres add a veteran starter and maybe a future everyday player. The Orioles get 2 really good young arms to add to their team.

To The Brewers
Orioles Get: Tyler Thornburg, Kentrail Davis, and Mark Rogers
Brewers Get: Jeremy Guthrie, Josh Bell, Mychal Givens

Review: The Orioles restock the system they add a speedy guy in Davis who will be around to play in the future. They also add Thornburg who will be a great young arm and Rogers who will be a solid near ready addition to the rotation. The Brewers add a good veteran in Guthrie and add 2 young bats that figure to help them sooner rather than later.

This is what a Guthrie deal looks like, but who know's what happens.

What the Orioles Team will look like come opening day

This is the projected 25 man roster of the Baltimore Orioles come opening day, baring any moves between now and then. Due to the uncertainty of Brian Roberts health I have a with and without Roberts lineup/bench combo. Please enjoy this and note this is the Tucker Stokes version and I have been known for thinking baseball a tad out side the box.

Line Up WITH Brian Roberts
2B1. Brian Roberts
SS2. J.J. Hardy
RF 3. Nick Markakis
CF 4. Adam Jones
C 5. Matt Wieters
3B 6. Mark Reynolds
LF 7. Nolan Riemold
DH 8. Wilson Betimet
1B 9.Chris Davis
BENCH
Back Up Catcher: Taylor Teagarden
Utility Player 1: Robert Andino
Utility Player 2: Ryan Flarety
 Back up OutFielder: Endy Chavez
Lineup WITHOUT Brian Roberts
LF1. Endy Chavez
SS 2. J.J. Hardy
RF 3. Nick Markakis
CF 4. Adam Jones
C 5. Matt Wieters
3B 6. Mark Reynolds
DH 7. Nolan Riemold
1B 8. Chris Davis
2B 9.  Ryan Flaherty
BENCH
BackUp Catcher: Taylor Teagarden
Utility Player 1: Wilson Betimet
Utility Player 2 : Robert Andino
Backup Out Feilder: Jai Miller

Starting Rotation
1. Jeremy Guthire
2. Wei-Yin Chen
3. Jake Airrieta
4. Zach Britton
5. Tommy Hunter
Bullpen
Long Reliver 1: Brad Bergesen
Long Reliver 2: Jason Berken
Middle Reliver 1: Alfredo Simon
Middle Reliver 2: Tsuyoshi Wada
Middle Reliver 3: Darren "O" Day
Set Up Man: Troy Patton
Closer:: Jim Johnson

This is what I predict the team will look like on opening day, below are the notes for players who I say dont make the team:
Kevin Gregg: Is traded for a minor league player
Pedro Strop: is sent down to Triple-A because there is an overload of relivers and he has options so he can be sent out without risking losing him on a wavier claim.
Dana Eveland: sent to minors thru waviers, but at risk of being claimed but that is a risk they will take.
Brian Matusz: optioned to Triple-A but likley is recalled to the majors later
Zach Phillips: optioned to Triple-A and is called back in september
Clay Rapada: is wavied to Triple-A but not claimed so the Orioles get to keep him in their minor league system and he is called up when a spot is open for him.
Chris Tillman: Optioned to Triple-A and called up in september.
Ryan Adams: optioned to Triple-A but is recalled later if Flarety is found to be better used in a utility player or when september callup's are here
Matt Antonelli: Sent to minors, not claimed and called up later in september
Josh Bell: Optioned out and called up in september
Matt Angle: optioned out but called back if an outfielder is hurt or is called up in september
Jai Miller: makes the team IF Roberts is hurt otherwise optioned out and called up in september
Below are top prospects that are on the 40 but not likley for the 25 man MLB roster
Dylan Bundy
Oliver Drake
Joe Mahoney

These have been my predictions for the Orioles Opening Day Roster 2012
